Course Competencies
Demonstrate a knowledge and ability to speak and write using the vocabulary of film
Analyze and explain the basic structural components of film (cinematography, editing, etc.) in order to determine how each component "layers" or melds together to make the composite "meaning"
Exhibit a working knowledge of American film history, from the silent cinema to the present day
Explain the role of "genre" in American film history, and the relationship between genre and American social history
Identify the Structural elements of "story-telling" as they relate to motion pictures
Investigate and evaluate a few great films from cinematic history
